1. How do I install the game on a PC?

Using the link sent to you in your order confirmation e-mail, download the Once Upon A Time installer. Once downloaded, double-click the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.

2. How do I install the game on a Mac?

Using the link sent to you in your order confirmation e-mail, download the Once Upon A Time installer. Once downloaded, double-click the installer and a window should open showing Once Upon A Time and the Applications folder. Simply drag Once Upon A Time to the Applications folder to install it. Once installed, navigate to your Applications folder and run the game from there. DO NOT run the game directly from the installer.

3. I have a mouse with only one button and I just want to scream!

If you only have one button on your mouse and/or you don't have a scroll wheel on your mouse, you can set other keys on your keyboard to allow you to choose Princess spells and perform your secondary action (parry, pounce, frogify and scream).
To change which keys are linked to which actions you can go into the options menu by clicking the Options button in the top right corner of any menu.
Once inside the options menu, click the Controls tab at the top. You will be presented with a list of all the actions that can be linked to keys or mouse buttons. Double-click the row that you would like to change and then press the keyboard key or mouse button you would like to change it to.

4. Why does the game show a black screen and then quit?

After starting the game a black screen will appear for a second and then the game will quit. When using an ATI graphics card under certain versions of the Windows operating system, this issue will present itself. The solution is to obtain the latest drivers for your graphics card from ATI. If the problem persists, please contact us with a detailed description of the problem and the steps you have taken to try and fix it.

5. How do I join an Internet or LAN game?

To join an Internet or Local Area Network (LAN) game, click 'Play' in the main menu to be brought to the multi-player lobby. Once in the lobby, a list of all available games will be displayed. Double-clicking a game in the list will join that game. If the 'Join Best Game' button is flashing you can click that to join the fastest, most full game in the list. Games that are completely full will be listed in gray and games that require a password will be listed in red.

6. Why does the game I created not show up in the list of games?

After creating a new game, others should be able to see your game in the list of games. If your game is not displaying in the list of games, it could be a result of several things.
#1 - If you are behind a firewall, make sure to open port 28000. By default, Once Upon A Time creates games on port 28000, so if you are behind a firewall you will need to open this port.
#2 - If you are connected to the Internet through a router you will need to forward port 28000 from your router to your computer. This is achieved in many different ways and depends on your router brand. Check your router's documentation for instructions on forwarding ports.
See Frequently Asked Question #6 for other possible reasons why your games would not be displayed in the list of games.

7. I can't see games in my list. What's up!?

There are a couple of reasons why you might not be able to see any games.
#1 - Ensure that you have a connection to the Internet (if you are looking for Internet games) or your Local Area Network (if you are looking for LAN games).
#2 - Once Upon A Time uses the Garagegames Master Server to list its games. Occasionally the Master Server is unavailable because of maintenance or an interruption of service. If this is the case, service should be restored within a day.
#3 - It is very possible that no one is currently hosting any games. You can create a game and have others join you!

8. How do I create a dedicated game?

A dedicated game is one that has no 'client', so it is just the 'hosting' portion of the game. Creating a dedicated game is now easier than ever! To create a dedicated game, click the 'Play' button on the main menu. In the next screen, click 'Create Game' to be brough to the create game menu. Set up the game however you would like it to be and then in the 'Settings' portion of the menu click the 'Dedicated' button to create the dedicated game.

A few useful commands to use in the dedicated game:
quit(); - Will quit Once Upon A Time
messageAll("", "Message Here"); - Will send a message to everyone in the game
listPlayers(); - Will show you all the players currently connected to your game
kick(####); - Kick a player from your game (where #### is the client number found using listPlayers();)

9. How do I get rid of the tutorial?

The tutorial can be enabled/disabled in the 'Settings' portion of the 'Map Select' page.
